Lt. Col. (Retired) John W. Powell Sr., is a Vietnam veteran who served with the US Army in the 1st Calvary Division as a helicopter pilot. LTC Powell's military decorations include two awards of the Distinguished Flying Cross, two awards of the Air Medal for Valor, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, the Bronze Star, three awards of the Meritorious Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, and 33 Air Medals for combat air missions. LTC Powell later served as the National Membership Director of AMVETS, a veterans' service organization. He currently serves as Director of Operations for Military Historical Tours.
