World War II: fighter pilot, P-47s, 355th Fighter Group, 8th Air Force. Air Medal with 5 clusters; Distinguished Flying Cross. Shot down twice – prisoner of war in Germany 1944-May 1945.
Korean War through 1963:
* Instructor, all-weather flight training
* Kansas Air National Guard -- flew F-89s, F-94s, and other fighters in fighter groups in Europe, Alaska, and other locations.
Retired 1964 from US Air Force.
Vietnam and Laos: Joined Central Intelligence Agency air force/Air America in 1964 – pilot of support aircraft – short take-off and landing (STOL) in combat zones in Vietnam and Laos. Retired 1970. Four Purple Hearts.
