    Lt. Col. Arbes served in the U.S. Air Force from April 1964 through July 1975 on active duty and from July 1975 through July 1986 in the Reserves. His entire career was involved with weather support to the operational forces from Goose Bay, Labrador, to Korat, Thailand, to Fort Lewis, Washington in support of Army aviation, to tropical Hawaii in support of the satellite film canister recovery program, to the sunny gulf coast of Florida at Hurlbert Field and Mc Dill Air Force Base. In 1976 he joined the Florida Department of Environmental Protection as a meteorologist and is currently serving as the Administrator for all ambient air quality monitoring within the State. Lt. Col. Arbes graduated from St. John's University (Minnesota) and did graduate work at Texas A&M University. His outside interests include firearms and aviation history, specifically during the World War II era. Memberships include the Air and Waste Management Association, the American Meteorological Society, the Air Force Association, the National Rifle Association, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Air Force Museum Foundation, and as charter member of the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum.
