    B-17 pilot, 8th Air Force, based in England. Plane disabled in daylight bombing run over Leipzig, Germany, July 7, 1944. Reached Holland, lost 3rd engine, bailed out near village of Vollehoven. With Dutch underground. Moved into Belgium. Captured by Germans in Antwerp. Eventually sent to POW prison Stalag Luft One, north of Berlin.

    Flown out of Germany by US Army Air Force plane on May 13, 1945.
