Terry graduated from the US Air Force Academy (USAFA) in 1970. He went directly into pilot training at Laughlin AFB, TX followed by OV-10 training at Hurlburt AFB, FL and a 13-month stint in Viet Nam.
His 20-year military career was two tours in training commands and four years in the F-4 E/G at Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany. He retired following a tour at the Pentagon where he served on the staff of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) and Hq USAF. His military awards Included the Defense Superior Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross, 11 Air Medals, and several others.
