    Col Hagler was a member of a small group of Army officers in the Office of the Chief of Research and Development, Dept of the Army in 1956-1958 who funded and supported Dr Werner Von Braun in his efforts which culminated in the launch of the United States’ first satellite on January 31, 1958.

    After retiring from the Army in 1963, Col Hagler joined the NASA Office of Manned Spaceflight. In 1976, he was awarded the NASA Exceptional Service Medal with the following citation: "For his engineering skill and management expertise in conceiving and directing advanced studies for NASA manned spaceflight programs.” His work has led directly to the establishment of past and current flight programs and has been essential to this Nation’s progress in space.
