Maj Blake distinguished himself by being the first communications officer to receive an excellent rating while serving on board the E-4B National Airborne Operations Center.
While serving as senior Air Force communicator in Japan at Yokota AB, he became the first commander of the 605th Communications Flight, Hq 5th Air Force. He continues (in 2004) his commitment to the Air Force even in retirement by teaching AFJROTC at Lakeland High School, Suffolk, VA.
