    General Hodges was a combat veteran of World War Two, serving at one time as the Commander, Second Air Division of the Eighth Air Force in England. During his service, he was awarded The Distinguished Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal. He received many foreign decorations, including the Order of the British Empire, The French National Order of the Legion of Honor, the Belgian Croix de Guerre with Palm and the Chinese Special Tecklet Cloud Banner.
    General Hodges was born in Oakley, Maryland. In retirement he resided in the Air Force Village near Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.
