    During World War II Lieutenant Skelly was a navigator with the 8th Army Air Force stationed in England flying in B-17's during the bombing of Germany. After the war he returned to the U.S. to navigate troop carriers and cargo planes to and around the Pacific Theater of Operation.

    In 1950 he continued his navigation skills during the Berlin Airlift making many flights in and out of Berlin. After leaving the Air Force he was a navigator for Northwest Airlines and the Flying Tigers throughout the Pacific. He has circumnavigated the globe with the exception of a short area in Southeast Asia.
