Learned to fly with the Army Air Force in England during WWI. Survived his first crash when another cadet landed on his plane. After a total of three crashes, he retired in 1938.
His younger brother, Col. Edwin C. Eller was beachmaster for the invasion of Southern France after the North African and Sicilian campaigns.
