    A native of Elyria, OH (b. 11/25/28), William Andrew Flaherty had a love for flying throughout his 20 years in the military, and beyond. He completed flight training in 1952 and during the Korean War flew in a B-26 and SA-16 as navigator on 72 missions from August 1952 to July 1953. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and five Air Medals plus numerous other decorations. Retiring from the U.S. Air Force in 1971 with the rank of Major, in Junel992 he began taking flying lessons at Watertown, WI and in due course earned his private pilot's license. He flew frequently thereafter logging more than 853 hours of flying time. "Bill" died in Madison, WI on April 19, 2002.
