Major Gould enlisted in the USAF on December 28, 1950. He graduated from pilot training as class 53-F. He attended Advanced Fighter School as Nellis AFB, Las Vegas, Nevada. He was stationed at K-13 Korea and Chitose AFB, Japan, 1954-1955. He was a pilot with the Michigan Air National Guard from 1956 to 1970.
