    Roger Kent Gould was born November 3, 1937 in South Haven, Michigan. He retired from the U.S. Army on July 1, 1976. He served two tours in Vietnam, first as a CH47 Chinook pilot with B Company, 228th Aviation Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division and the 213th Assault Support Helicopter Company (Blackcats) and then during his second tour as a Flight Standards Officer for the 17th Aviation Group (Combat). He participated in early airmobile concept testing while flying CH21 helicopters in Korea. Gould finished his career as the Pilot-in-Command for the Secretary of the Army. He has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism twice, the Bronze Star four times and the Air Medal 26 times. He won the Outstanding Instructor Award while serving as an Instructor Pilot at the U.S. Army Aviation School, Fort Rucker, Alabama between Vietnam tours. He is one of the founders of the Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association and a former President of the Army Aviation Association of America, and a member of the Twirly Birds (an organization of pioneer helicopter pilots).
