    Mr. Gilbert F. Hasler

MARION H. (GOERBERT) HASLER 1’st Lieutenant, was born 5 June 1931 in Sharon, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Sharon General Hospital School of Nursing in September of 1952. She followed in her sister's footsteps who was an R. N. and served in the U. S. Army Nurse Corps in WWII in Europe. In April of 1953 she enlisted in the USAF and was sent to Gunter AFB, Alabama, for the Officers Indoctrination Course. Upon completion of O.I.C. Lt. Goerbert was assigned to the Base Hospital at Nellis AFB, Nevada. She worked in General Duty Medical and Surgical wards and was then assigned to the Operating Room as a Surgical Nurse.

In 1954 she volunteered for Flight Nurse Training and was assigned to the School of Aviation Medicine at Gunter AFB, Alabama. They attended Ground School, practiced patient care in C-47 Gooney Birds and she earned her wings. Upon completion in May 1954 Marion returned to Nellis AFB, Las Vegas. Nevada. She continued her duties in the Obstetrics Ward as Charge Nurse. She remained in that duty until separation in April 1956. One month prior to her separation, in March she married Gilbert F. Hasler a former F-86 Combat Instructor Pilot from Nellis.

Her husband believes that Marion is probably the FIRST WOMAN to fly across the U. S. in a jet. This flight occurred in December of 1954. From Ontario, California to Nellis AFB. Nevada to Lowery AFB. Denver, Colorado, to Offut AFB, Omaha, Nebraska to Sharon, Pennsylvania and landing at Youngstown, Ohio. Gil Hasler, the pilot, has the Flight Orders and the USAF Form 5 logs to substantiate the flights. The aircraft was a Lockheed T-33 A. Not quite Pacific Ocean to Atlantic Ocean but very close. The commercial airlines did not receive their first Boeing 707 Jet Airliners until 1959. Lt. Goerbert had participated in several fights with Lt. Hasler in the T-Bird including aerial target tows for air to air live fire gunnery training for students flying F-80's and F-86's. She had also participated in aerobatic flights. They are retired and enjoy their vacation residence on the Colorado River in Arizona.
