    Mark became a private pilot in 1940 and owned a Taylorcraft until the beginning of WW II. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942 and was an instructor in basic and instrument flying in all types of aircraft, including the B-17 during the war years. Mark continued his private flying activities until 1951, when he became a corporate pilot. He was Chief pilot and Aviation department manager for several large corporations. In 1967, he began flying corporate jets, which took him all over North America, Western Europe, and Africa. He retired back to his home town of Eau Claire, WI in 1974 with 17,979 hours in his log book.
