    Mary Simmons was the first woman aeronautical engineer to work for Consolidated Aircraft in San Diego in World War II. She worked in design on the PBY, PB4Y2, B-24, F-106 and Atlas Missile plus others. By the time she retired some 20 years later she was working for General Dynamics as the name had changed.
