    Matthew M. Murphy, Esq. is a twenty-year aviation enthusiast and a licensed private pilot with instrument rating. An aircraft owner who enjoys every hour spent airborne, he is a proud member of the Lawyer-Pilots Bar Association and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.

    Mr. Murphy is admitted to the Illinois and Wisconsin Bars and to the United States District Courts for the Northern District of Illinois and the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. He is a member of the American, Chicago and Wisconsin Bar Associations, the Tort, Trial and Insurance Practice Section of the American Bar Association, the Defense Research Institute, and is a former chair of the Insurance Law Committee of the Young Lawyers Section of the Chicago Bar Association.

    Mr. Murphy is a partner at Bates Carey Nicolaides LLP whose practice focuses on complex insurance matters, including transportation and construction risks, reinsurance transactions and arbitrations, organization formulation and dissolution, coverage litigation, broker-company relations, claim oversight and examinations, policy and contract preparation, and regulatory affairs, in addition to general corporate governance and litigation. He also represents a number of corporations outside of the insurance industry, providing litigation services and general legal counsel. He previously held various positions with Aon Corporation subsidiaries, including senior vice-president and director of Aon Risk Consultants and Virginia Surety Company, Dearborn Insurance Company, and vice-president of Aon Reinsurance Agency. Prior to that, he was with Crum & Forster Managers Corporation in various insurance, regulatory and claims positions. He also is a frequent lecturer to professional and educational association on insurance issues.

    Mr. Murphy received a J.D. with honors from IIT/Chicago-Kent College of Law in 1982; and a B.A. in Finance from the University of Illinois in 1977.
