Max R. Stanley, Chief Test Pilot, Northrop Corporation. During his 28 years at Northrop he pioneered as pilot on the first flights of all models of the P-61 Black Widow, (except the XP-61), the Northrop F-15, the Tri-Motor Pioneer, and the Tri-Motor C-125 Raider. He served as Project Pilot on the Northrop N-9M one-third scale model of the XB-35 Flying Wing Bomber. He was the Chief Pilot on the first flight of the YB-35, as well as the YB-49 Flying Wing Bombers. He was later Chief Pilot and Director of Flying Operations in the development of the SM-62 Snark Intercontinental Cruise Missile. He was a lifelong resident of Santa Monica and West Los Angeles, California.
