    BIOGRAPHY - MAJOR GENERAL FRANK H. SMOKER
    Major General Frank H. Smoker, United States Air Force (Retired), is a native of Lancaster County. He served in the Air Force during World War II as a B-17 navigator and, from his base in England, flew 26 combat missions over Germany, totaling 222 combat flying hours.
    During the Korean War, General Smoker completed Air Force pilot training. During the 1960's he flew worldwide transport missions in the C-121 aircraft, including combat mission into Vietnam. He holds three aeronautical ratings: Command Pilot, Navigator, and Observer, and has flown over 5,000 hours.
    General Smoker earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry from Franklin and Marshall College, and a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Auburn University. He is a graduate of the senior Air Force School, the Air War College.
    During the last seven years of his 42 year military career, he served as Commander of the Pennsylvania Air National Guard, with headquarters at Fort Indiantown Gap. He retired in June 1985. General Smoker has received numerous awards and decorations, including the highest peacetime decoration, the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal.
    He has the rank of Distinguished Eagle Scout, has been inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Pennsylvania Air National Guard and also into the Hall of Fame of the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.
    General Smoker is a member of Columbia Lodge No. 286, Free and Accepted Masons; the Harrisburg Consistory, Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Valley of Harrisburg. In 1998, he was awarded the Thirty-third Degree, the highest honor of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, for significant contributions to humanity, reflecting credit upon the Masonic Fraternity.
    General Smoker and his wife Kathleen now live in Lebanon where he is active in many military and community organizations.
