    Honored by:
    Ms. Stacey Jarrell

Michael Howard Jarrell honorably served his country as a Captain in the United States Marine Corps from 1966-1971. His service as a Marine aviator included a tour of duty flying UH-1 Huey helicopters in Vietnam (squadrons VMO-6 and HML-167), and later service as a flight instructor in the T-2 Buckeye.

After two decades of civilian life, raising three daughters with his wife Linda Vance Jarrell, he joined the Louisiana Army National Guard in 1990, again flying the UH-1. There he was dubbed "Choctaw" by his younger colleagues after the H-34 Choctaw helicopter he flew in his original flight training, which by then had been put on display in the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum. From 2003-04, at the age of 58, he served with the 812th Medical Company (Air Ambulance) on active duty in Operation Enduring Freedom.

In addition to serving his country as an aviator, he is also an enthusiastic private pilot and owner of a Grumman Cheetah.
