    After graduating Virginia Military Institute in June 1964, Michael Kevin Murphy was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the US Air Force. After flight training, he flew F5's from Webb Air Force Base, Texas.
    Following an intra-service transfer to the US Army in 1966, Lt. Murphy reported to Jump School at Fort Benning, Georgia. After earning his jump wings, he went on to complete Ranger School and Special Forces School. Murphy deployed to Viet Nam late in 1967 where he served until late 1968. While serving as Company and Battalion Commander with the 199th light Infantry Brigade, CPT Murphy earned the COMBAT INFANTRYMAN BADGE, BRONZE STAR and the AIR MEDAL with 13 Oak Leaf Clusters during the TET Offensive, Viet Nam 1968.
    Other Awards include the VIETNAMESE GALLANTRY CROSS with PALM, the prestigious BIET DONG QUAN (Vietnamese Ranger Badge) and the PURPLE HEART.
