Michael was born in 1963. He developed an interest in flight while attending Hemdon High School, where he took an aviation class.

After graduate work at George Mason University, he elected to seek entrance in the United States Navy's Flight Officers' program to qualify as a radar intercept officer (RIO) in F-14s. As a Lieutenant Junior Grade assigned to Fighter Squadron 41 (VF-41) known in the fleet as the Black Aces, Michael or "Pepe" was deployed to the Middle East aboard the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt and flew numerous sorties in Operation Desert Storm. After the cease-fire, the squadron participated in the Operation Provide Comfort to help starving and suffering Kurds.

He became a "Top Gun" student, then instructor at Miramar Naval Air station before returning to civilian life in 1996.

Following his interest in flight operations, he joined Boeing where, as of September 2004, he was a deputy manager of programs in Mesa, Arizona.

In 2004 Michael resided in Mesa, AZ with his wife Deanna.
