Teen-agers today cannot buy much with $3.50, unless they want to invest in some career-minded experience in repair and flying airplanes. Where else can you try a career for $3.50 a year quips Morgan Brown, advisor to Explores Post 272.
The post, an aviation group sponsored by Braden's Flying Service, helps scouts learn basic airplane maintenance as they refurbish antique aircraft. The annual 3.50 membership dues is a good deal for youngsters who hope to make aviation their livelihood but want to know the nuts and bolts of e profession before devoting more time and money, according to Brown, who is also service manager at Braden's.
Out of 45 scouts who graduated from the post, since it was formed in 1976, four now have their pilot's license, one is studying aeronautical engineering and one is a flight mechanic for Delta Airlines, Brown said.
The scouts have refurbished two planes since 1976 diligently working every Saturday morning at Braden’s under the supervision of post advisor Brown, Braden mechanic Glenn Habrial and Wilson resident Bob Messer. The post also meets twice a month for other aviation activities, such as ground school instruction and maintenance classes.
