    Air and Space Friend

    Honored by:

I was inducted into the US Army Air Forces as a flying cadet on January 16, 1941, one day before my 27th birthday. I washed out of primary flight school at Cal-Aero Academy in Ontario, California, and graduated from bombsight and autopilot maintenance at Lowry Field, Denver, Colorado on December 5, 1941. I was a member of the 95th Squadron of the 17th Bomb Group at Pendleton, Oregon during January of 1942. They furnished all of the crews for Lt. Colonel Jimmie Doolittle's attack on Japan on April 18, 1942.

I was the bombsight and autopilot maintenance officer for the 427th Squadron of the 303rd Bomb Group (B-17 Flying Fortress) during 1942-45 at Molesworth, England. They flew 364 missions over Europe -- the most of any heavy bomb group.
