Burnett A. Hemes served in the United States Air force from October 2, 1967 to February 20,1973. While flying a KC-135 in support of the Vietnam War was involved in saving an F-4 Phantom over Laos on July 4, 1972. For this event he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.
