    Honored by:

    J. Eugene Farr has been involved with space systems since 1958. He started as an engineer, working on flight control systems for the X-15 Research Rocket Airplane. Contributions to this project included solving problems caused by nonlinear effects (like the rate and hinge moment limit problem on the first flight.), designing an improved reaction control system for out of the atmosphere flight and integrating an Adaptive Autopilot into the X-15 ship 3.
In the mid-60's, Mr. Farr was involved in designing flight controls for the Titan III and solving attitude control problems for low earth orbit (LEO) Air Force satellites. From 1966 through 1999, he was responsible for General Systems Engineering, Systems Integration and Operation of several major satellite systems, including LEO systems as well as the Global Positioning System (GPS). He was a member of the GPS team that was awarded the Collier Trophy in 1992.
