Jack L. Kolf, born 8-11-39 in Berwyn, IL, graduated from Northrup Institute of Technology. Mr. Kolf retired from NASA after 31 years of service.
Everyone described him as an excellent engineer, a very logical and rational thinker who insisted that objectivity and safety be the guide, not emotion. Kolf was a very private person with a droll wit and a marvelous sense of humor.
His contributions to flight research included the concept of fast-time simulation used first with the X-15 and lifting body aircraft; flight planner on the X-15, the M2-F3 and X-24 lifting bodies; on the board to coordinate the Approach and Landing Tests for the Space Shuttle prototype Enterprise; project manager of the F-15 utilized by Dryden pilots for discrepancies between predicted and measured values of drag on an aircraft and develop improved methods; and project manager for the Pegasus booster launched by B-52 No. 008 in the early 1900s.
    He died 5-11-00 in CA.
