    Air and Space Friend

    Honored by:
    Mr. Roland J. Charlebois

My father, John Charlebois, Sr., was an automotive instructor for a group of young ladies from Smith College in Northampton, MA and among these students was Amelia Earhart. These young women learned the art of automotive mechanics and chauffeuring during World War I.
Amelia wrote in a letter sent to my father that she attributed her knowledge of mechanics in allowing her to obtain a much needed Transport License at that time and which later on allowed her to pursue her career in aviation. (Memorabilia of Amelia’s photos, letters, etc. can be found in the Smith College archives. Also find newspaper clippings relating to Amelia’s training with my Dad in the paper files for this profile.)

Wall of Honor profiles are provided by the honoree or the donor who added their name to the Wall of Honor. The Museum cannot validate all facts contained in the profiles.
