    Mr. John H. Rainey was drafted into the Army in 1943. He was assigned to the Air Corps, trained to be an armorer-gunner, and subsequently flew 36 combat missions in B-24 “Liberator” bombers with the 2nd Air Div of the 8th AF out of bases in England. He earned a DFC, and Air medal with 3 Oak leaf Clusters and a European Ribbon with 6 Battle Stars. The 445th Bomb Group to which he was assigned earned the Croix De Guerre with palm from France. He also saw service during the Korean War. Retired as a MSG for a service-connected disability in 1955. He obtained employment as a procurement Specialist with Hq SAC at Offutt AFB, Neb. From there he transferred to Travis AFB, Fairfield, CA, where he served as a Procurement Officer GS-12 until retirement in 1974.
