Following his graduation from the University of Florida in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Kraig Lenius began his career as a Design Engineer with the General Electric Power Systems Management Department outside of Atlanta, GA. He became involved with computer graphics in 1973 when he implemented a computer controlled drafting system and wrote software for the automatic generation of point-to-point wiring diagrams derived from computer-produced schematics and layouts. In 1979, he moved to General Electric Space Division in Valley Forge, PA, where he became the Manager of Engineering Support including Mechanical and Electrical Design & Drafting, Parts Engineering, Configuration Management and computer hardware and software support for the other Engineering functions for the design and manufacture of both military and commercial communications satellites. During that time he also led the Engineering portion of the implementation of a leading ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system of that era, greatly improving production productivity. In 1989, he chaired the National Aerospace Standards Committee of the Aerospace Industries Association in its efforts to assure consistent and high quality fasteners for all sorts of aerospace products from components to airframes. He also continued his involvement with the CAD/CAM Technical Committee which later expanded to be the Computer Aided Enterprise Systems Technical Committee of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. In 1994, he moved to Martin Marietta in Orlando, FL, where he became Manager of Configuration and Data Management with what would later become Lockheed Martin Simulation, Training and Support. In that role he emphasized software configuration management, successfully attaining ISO 9001 registration and leading the team which implemented software metrics collection as one of the cornerstone requirements for the pursuit of SEI (Software Engineering Institute) certification. In 2005, he managed the successful implementation of an enhanced Material Requirements Planning and Inventory Control computer system to improve the production of Lockheed Martin flight simulators and automated avionics test equipment.
