Michael Grimes served as an airman in the US Air Force from October 1965 to October 1969. He was stationed at various air defense bases in the United States with an Air Force specialty code of 30151 (aircraft electronics navigation equipment repairman). The last year of his enlistment (October 1968 to October 1969) was spent on assignment in Korat, Thailand with the 553rd Avionics Maintenance Squadron supporting the Vietnam War effort.
