Born August 14, 1902, Olaf Bernard Mattison, my father, began his interest in planes and flying in 1909, or 1910. The Rice Lake Wisconsin airport hosted a fly-in sometime during those years. Dad didn't get a ride then. His first ride came in 1922 or 1923, in a surplus WW1 trainer. His interest grew to a passion, and in 1928 he took some flight time from Roy Larsen. a pioneer pilot in the Midwest. Dad's hero is Charles A. Lindbergh, but Dad is my Hero!
