    Christopher L. Davis D.D.S.

My dad, born 8-5-26, began flying in Sioux City, IA, at age 7 in a Kari Keen. He (the mole) spent many hours in his basement inventing flying machines, including a u-control model airplane. Later, he became a Corporal in the USAF until the end of WW II. Then, with a B.S. in thermodynamic engineering, dad worked 20 years for Northrop. Among the many things he worked on during those years as a design and engineering test thermodynamicist, he worked on the deep submersible rescue unit (DSRV), invented the material and cooling path to protect electronics on the Ranger (for this, liquid nitrogen was first used to simulate deep space, (-420 degrees F), in the labs). The Ranger was the first thing to impact the moon and is still there. He developed the explosive ordinance for Northrop F-89 in the Vietnam War. Dad developed cooling systems for electronic guidance systems on the Snark, the Y-12, SR-71, and on space suits before they were ever a projected need. Dad’s bosses and co-workers proclaimed my dad as the smartest engineer they had ever see. I agree.
