Special interest in aviation started for Rock Sterkman during World War II when large groups of bombers and fighters of the USAAF and RAF were overflying Rock's Dutch hometown of Rotterdam. Starting after the war with gliders and sophisticated sailplanes, Rock received his first pilot's license single engine/ land December 1963. His daughter Katinka followed in his footsteps, Air Traffic Pilots License 1999 and his son (Aerospace engineer) got his first pilots license in 1996.
