    Mr. Ken Perich

After graduating from high school in January 1943 I went to work in a plant on the assembly line and disliked the job I was doing. I entered the WAVES of the Navy by November, 1944. I was sent to Boot Camp at Hunter College in the Bronx of New York. I wanted to go for Nurses Training and was sent to the Bethesda Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Md. and received my training in the Nursing Field. After completion of my training I was sent to the San Diego Naval Hospital in San Diego, California. I started out on the Ob/Gym ward for dependents of the navy. Then due to typing skills from high school, transferred to the admission office and Emergency Room. There were times that we had admitted as many as 200 sailors and marines in one day. We had to be piped aboard the ship and receive medical records to get back to the hospital and by diagnosis knew what wards they had to be placed. I truly enjoyed my Navy days and happy to do the work that pleased me. After D Day and the war was over I was discharged from the Navy just short of 2 years. I used my G.I. bill and became a Medical Technologist at our local hospital and also advanced to Supervisor of our Laboratory. Thanks to all my experience from the Navy.
