Dorothy Lancaster Stefanki was born March 15, 1923 in Spartanburg, South Carolina to James Monroe Lancaster and Mabel Ledbetter Lancaster.
She graduated from Spartanburg High School and Cecil Business College. She was Secretary/Treasurer of Palmetto Air School associated with the Civilian Pilot Training (CPT) at Wofford College.
She was employed by the Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA, predecessor to the Federal Aviation Administration) in Atlanta, Georgia and Miami, Florida.
She married Ensign John Stefanki on April 4, 1945 in Coral Gables, Florida. They had nine children, Cathy Ann, Steve, John E., Judy, Michael (deceased), Larry and Mary, Megan and Dorothy Agnes. All are university graduates.
