Esther Geraldine “Gerry” McKinley contributed to aviation and the war effort by joining the U.S. Navy as a Wave in February 1943. She was trained as a machinist mate in Norman, Oklahoma. Gerry McKinley served her country and contributed to aviation history through providing maintenance on naval airplanes and flight scheduling, thus freeing men to serve in the front lines. She was honorably discharged in August 1045 as a Machinist’s Mate Second Class.
Gerry Hasbrook married H.W. McKinley on November 30, 1944, once again serving her country by becoming a wife and mother. She provided a home for Mr. McKinley and family. Bill McKinley went on to contribute 40 years of his life to furthering aerospace science and exploration at Martin Marietta Co.
