I am nominating my mother, Mrs. Grace Lahman. Grace only flew two or three times in her life. Her contribution to aviation was one made by many mothers. Mother’s gift was that of support and encouragement to her child in that child’s dreams of flight and aviation. My mother always did things to facilitate my aviation dreams. She taught me the patience necessary create model airplanes. She would take me to the airport to watch airplanes take off and land. And once she dipped into our family’s very limited funds to pay ten cents per pound for my first airplane ride. She spent seven dollars to send me up in a piper cub. I’ll never forget those gifts . . . mother did her best so that I could be a kid with dreams in the sky.
