Born June 3, 1908 in Sioux City, Iowa, Ivah loved to fly over the grass and corn fields of her home town. During the early days of flying, she was a member of the Civil Air Patrol and the women?’'s flying organization known as the 99ers. She flew her own plane which was manufactured by the Kari-Keen Co in Sioux City.

My great aunt Ivah, now deceased, taught my dad Ralph Marshall (her nephew) how to fly at the age of seven as he sat on her lap in the Kari-Keen. I admire her courage in those early days and envy that freedom she felt. It is clear that she is the source of my family?’'s generations of fliers: her nephew, his daughter (me), my son. Thank you for the gift of flight in our blood.
