As far back as I can remember, I have always been fascinated by flight, space, the heavens, and beyond. Before we had TV, I remember dad waking us up to hear the launch of Sputnik on the radio. After we had TV, we were awakened for every Vanderburgh launch, and any others – many of which dad had worked on. He taught us about flight and constellations. One time he woke us up early to drive to the mountains away from city lights to see the planets all in alignment at dawn (of course we went back to school). I followed all the space missions growing up. Then at age 42, I began flying lessons. I soloed on Dec 17, 1994 (the Wright Brothers’ Anniversary) and got my private pilot license in October of 1995. Mt flying is for the thrilling peace and motion and different view of the world. I have since seen a Space Shuttle launch in FL (when John Glenn went). I still need to see a night launch. Better yet, I want to go!
