During World War II, Sgt. Sapienza served in North Africa and Italy with the 376th Heavy Bomb Group in Liberators bombing Ploesti oil fields. Recalled in 1952 for the Korean War. Returning to the States, he was stationed at George AFB, then March AFB on the U2 Program and then McChord AFB. In 1962 he was assigned to Andrews AFB with the Presidential aircraft in the Nightwatch Group. Sgt Sapienza retired at Patrick AFB where he had been assigned to the Space Program.
