    Chris Haden took his first flight as a student pilot 5 Nov 1968 while stationed at Fort Huachuca, Arizona with the U.S. Army. His first solo was on 9 December 1968 from a dirt field near the Army base. After his release from active duty in February 1969, he went on to Emery School of Aviation in Greeley, Colorado. He completed his commercial airplane single engine, multi-engine land, instrument rating, flight instructor and instrument flight instructor by August 1969. He was a flight instructor at Emery until November 1971. He became the chief pilot at Straley Flying Service in Davenport, Iowa in 1972, serving a year in that capacity until opening his own flight school and charter service, Professional Aviation, in Phoenix, Arizona. By the time he left that position in 1974, he had accrued over 3,400 hours total flight time, 3200 of it pilot in command.
