He was a waist gunner on a B-17, and on April 7, 1945, was shot down over Germany. He was a POW until the end of the war. Was released by the Russians. Helped clean up a concentration camp. Then he and his buddies walked and rode trains across Europe to Camp Lucky Strike in France.
He also served in the Korean and Viet Nam wars as an Air Traffic Controller. He retired Aug 1, 1969 after 26 years of service for his country.
