Maj. Conant graduated from USAF Aviation Cadets in Class 53-D3. He was assigned to Nellis AFB, NV where he became Combat Qualified in the F-86F. Later assignments flying the F-86F were with the 479th Fighter Day Wing, 434th Squadron at George AFB, CA. He was then assigned to the 21st Fighter Bomber Wing, 531st Squadron at Chambley, France.
