    Norman Hoecker was a pilot for 56 years. Among his many achievements was conceiving and starting up an Aviation Department at the University of Kansas. After selling the Chancellor on the idea, Norman bought two C-45s (Beech 18s) from the Air Force “Graveyard,” used parts from one of them to fix up the other, Painted it Blue with a ‘Jayhawk” on the tail, and became KU’s first pilot.
