Otto Hoernig is President and CEO of Spacelink International, a company he established in 1994 to provide international telecommunications facilities and services. Under his guidance, Spacelink obtained international carrier licenses and operating agreements in several European Countries that included becoming one of the first German licensed private satellite service carriers. Mr. Hoernig has negotiated the purchase of on-orbit satellite telecommunications systems and effected their transfer to new service providers in the Middle East. With his leadership, Spacelink has won rapid response U.S. Government and NATO contracts for critical satellite telecommunications services in the Balkans and the Middle East. In February of 2001, the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) awarded Spacelink one of the largest small business contracts in the history of the federal government.
Before launching Spacelink International, Otto Hoernig was President and CEO of International MicroSpace, Inc. (IMI) an entrepreneurial company established to provide space related commercial products, systems and services including a Micro-Class Space Launch Vehicle. Under his management additional financing was secured, a multimillion-dollar launch vehicle contract acquired and an equity sale of IMI was completed. Mr. Hoernig was also Chairman of the Constellation Communications Company.
From 1987 through 1992, Otto Hoernig was Vice President, Defense Communication & Networks, for Contel's Federal Systems Sector where, as a General Manager, he effectively directed a $100 million line of business providing communications systems and network services to the Department of Defense and other Government Agencies. Mr. Hoernig was Vice President, Space Systems, American Satellite Company (ASC) from 1982 to 1987. In this capacity, he provided technical and general management of all satellite communications related activities including strategic planning, engineering, systems acquisition, spacecraft design and construction, satellite control center implementation and spacecraft launch activities. Under his direction, ASC's first communication satellite system was placed into operational service ahead of schedule, under budget and with performance exceeding requirement specifications. Mr. Hoernig was designated to be the ASC Payload Specialist on STS-71 which had been scheduled for launch January 1987.
Before joining American Satellite Company in 1982, Mr. Hoernig had 20 years experience in all aspects of space systems engineering, planning, acquisition and management while serving in the U.S. Air Force, and as an independent consultant to industry and government. This experience has included the conceptual design, development, systems engineering, integration, test, launch and operation of numerous DOD, NASA, commercial-domestic and international satellite systems. During Mr. Hoernig's Air Force career, he participated in formulating policy and in developing, implementing, and operating telecommunications systems and space related programs. He also successfully directed the planning, acquisition and operational implementation of several diverse advanced technology space systems.
Mr. Hoernig received a Master of Science degree from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A& M University.
