    Air and Space Friend

    Honored by:

As a farm boy growing up in Virginia, I was awed by military aircraft leaving a contrail. After high school in Roanoke and four years at Virginia Tech, I joined the Marine Corps OCC program. After two rejections, I was accepted into Naval Flight training on the third application. I successfully completed the program, being designated a Naval Aviator in March 1963. After two years at Cherry Point, NC and one year in Vietnam, I completed my obligation time and joined the Marine Corps Reserve.
After 18 months in graduate school, I joined Piedmont Airlines as a pilot and enjoyed 29 years with a terrific organization, retiring in 1996. Piedmont was an outstanding company. It had great people who displayed an outstanding work ethic and the company had a high regard for the employees. The two characteristics combined to provide a very pleasant place to work and thrive. It was a pleasure!
