    Paul Bubernak served in the U.S. Air Force as a fighter pilot and flight commander from 1953 to 1056. He was a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization forces in Europe during the Cold War era. The majority of his flying time was in the F-86 Sabre jet fighter, the world's first supersonic swept-wing aircraft.
