    Wall of Honor Level:
    Air and Space Friend

    Honored by:
    Mr. Don Sambol

Captain, USAF, pilot of AC-130A Spectre gunship, lost to hostile fire June 18, 1972, South Vietnam. Three crewmembers survived the crash. Listed as Missing in Action until 1993 when crash site was investigated.

From those who knew him then:
"There was much more to Paul Gilbert, an officer and a gentleman".
"In an unpopular war, he held on to his personal honor and integrity and he was an example to the rest of us. Again, thanks!"
"Many of us had our doubts about the war when we got there. Paul let us know that it all was very real and that we could fight and still do it with honor. That mattered much because now that most of us are back home again, we can still live with ourselves. Those who know about the Spectre Gunship can tell you about the terrible destruction that it can wreak. Paul Gilbert taught us not to use it as a sport, that 'Death From Above' was for real."
"I have nothing but memories of your uncle but that of an honorable pilot (letter to Paul's nephew from fellow pilot)."

A good son, brother, friend. A man of integrity in a confusing time.
