    Paul G. Miller served as a Naval aviator during WWII, flying F3F Wildcats. He survived a night midair collision when the aircraft exploded, blowing him out and ripping open the parachute. The parachute was placed in the Smithsonian because of the nature how it was opened, saving his life.
